Cartagena, Colombia
To visit Cartagena is to experience time travel, in real time. There is a very modern city with its coffee shops, restaurants, business centres, and big city bustle, and there is also
an old town which takes you back into the 17th century, when Spanish explorers, English and French pirates, and colonists of the new world, all shared the same cobbled streets.
Yesterday the temperatures hovered around 30C with very high humidity - not unpleasant, I might add, especially when knowing the weather ‘up North’ is particularly cold. Having been fortunate to have visited Cartagena previously, we chose not to do any vigorous sight seeing and instead took a slow walk around the port area. We spent a short time in a giant aviary with a multitude of the native birds. The inside of the aviary was very jungle like and the birds seemed quite at home, and comfortable in our presence - a very different experience indeed.
